Membership Training - Spring Round Up:
"GET ME FIVE CAMPAIGN"
Wear a GREEN ribbon for the "GET ME FIVE CAMPAIGN". Tell people to
look for the GREEN ribbon and ask why? Then let them know each unit
must recruit at least five new members into their perspective units.
We need at least 100 new faces by the end of June and another 400 by the end
of December.
Membership Tip of the Quarter:
Webelos and Leaders visit at least three Boy Scout Troops and learn where each of your scout will best fit in. Find the Boy Scout Units that are active, welcome you, and offer to help you.
A Scouts continued Membership, is directly related to the program, you as leaders run. If the scouts are having fun and getting activities/ranks completed, then your membership will grow. Increase the level of your activities by asking a parent to run a new event.
How and Why to Join
If you are interested in joining a Cub or Scout unit but don’t know what to do contact Anna Felcyn at 213-413-4400 ext. 221 or e-mail at Anna.Felcyn@boyscoutsla.org
Among the most vital of any
BSA Council's components is its membership. The BSA can have the most wonderful
array of programs found anywhere; it can have unlimited financial resources to
fund those programs; it can have excellent camps and other facilities; it can
have highly trained and exceptionally talented professionals on staff. But
without youth and adult membership, everything else is irrelevant. Membership is
the primary ingredient in the well-mixed blend of all the other ingredients in
the BSA program of unequalled youth development.
Because it is so important, Rio Hondo District encourages all of its units to
participate in membership drives on a semi-annual basis. The heaviest focus for
recruiting is in the beginning of the Fall school term, usually during the
months of August and September. A two month spread of time enables the many
school districts within the boundaries of Rio Hondo District to hold timely
recruitment drive programs in accordance with the specific school's start-up
calendar.
All units, from Cub Scout through Venturing, are asked to actively seek out new
youth and adult members. The Fall recruitment period is an ideal time to enlist
new members because youth and their parents are planning school and
extracurricular activities. Boy Scouting should have a prominent place in those
plans, and it is up to the unit leaders to bring attention to the many merits of
their program and activities.
The Spring Recruitment Drive is a second exciting time to bring in new members.
With summer camp and other summer activity season approaching, youth and parents
alike become interested in all that Scouting has to offer during the non-school
months, and onward through the entire year. It's a well known fact that youth
who participate in a Scout summer camp activity are most likely to continue
through the entire Scouting program.
Rio Hondo District together with the Los Angeles Area Council offers a wide
variety of helpful materials, distribution flyers and posters, recruitment
advise, training, and handouts to aid in the recruitment process. Each District
provides seminars on recruitment techniques and goals to help the unit leaders
to success in attracting new membership. Each District also has trained and
skilled professionals who are always willing to help with ideas and suggestions
for building and retaining membership.
Packages filled with helpful materials are available to each unit at the Fall
Roundtables. Be sure to have a representative at the Roundtable meeting to hear
the latest information and pick up these valuable materials. The packages
contain helpful forms, handouts, registration materials, and a copy of the newly
revised Recruitment Night manual which is a hands-on guide to success.
Supplementary materials, banners, and promotional items are also available for
sale at the local Scout Shops.
Links are being built now and will be attached to this site. They provide
valuable information and helps regarding Webelos transition, and offer a
download-able version of the newly revised Recruitment Night Manual as well as a
PowerPoint version of the Recruitment Night presentation itself. Information on
Boy Scout recruiting and how to hold a troop recruiting night is included, as
well as Venturing material. Remember, Scouting depends on a growing and nurtured
membership. And membership depends on you, the leaders.
